Distinguished and Famous people from Padthaway Region

🏡 Robert and Eliza Lawson

Robert Lawson established the Padthaway pastoral property in 1847, and his wife Eliza became a central figure in its family history. The surviving estate includes buildings from different phases of its development, from the early cottage to the later substantial homestead. After Robert’s death, Eliza continued the family’s association with the property; the estate remained in Lawson ownership until 1979. Its later use in hospitality and wine production introduced another chapter without erasing the earlier pastoral one. The modern wine region’s name therefore has a specific family and property history behind it. The buildings record successive generations of the family and their changing circumstances.
